What we do

The objectives of the Association are the following

  • Create a forum to debate, study and analyse matters of international family law and succession between experienced and skilled practising family lawyers with expertise in matters such as separation, divorce, nullity and dissolution of opposite-sex and same-sex marriages and partnerships; finances, pre and post nuptial agreements, marital property regimes, marital and child support; domestic abuse; cohabitation agreements; issues in relation to children including custody and residence, visitation, relocation, abduction, surrogacy, adoption and public law; and dispute resolution including litigation, mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.
  • Create a network for clients and lawyers, either Spaniard or foreigners, who need services of lawyers specialised in international family law and succession. The association hopes to expand its membership and to encourage others to join the committee.
  • Promote research and spread knowledge about legislation, case law and legal doctrine related to international family law and succession.
  • Improve the professional training and development of lawyers within the scope of international family law and succession.
  • Campaign for legal reforms in matters of international family law and succession.
  • Encourage the uniformity and harmonisation in the application and interpretation of the international legislation on family law and succession.
  • Establish connections to promote the communication, collaboration and help between different organisations and entities, public or private, related to international family law and succession, either national or international.
  • Develop a mutual collaboration between its members and to ensure they seek and provide assistance to each other in the field of international family law and succession.
  • Promulgate the members’ opinion and express it in different publications and in international or national forums.
  • Manage private law arbitrations and designate the appropriate arbitrators.
  • Promote publishing initiatives and publications on international family law and succession.
  • Any other complementary activities suggested by the Executive Committee or the General Assembly to contribute to achieve the objectives of the Association.
